To those who do not know me, I’m Mandy, currently working in BDP Antwerp. To those who know me, dun have to intro lah…. But u all still remember me?? T_T
It’s kind of weird writing an intro in someone’s blog and not mine. In case you guys wonder why I appear here… it’s Bernard lah… he has been ‘pestering’ and chasing after me for pix of my life in Antwerp… well, as you can see, I ‘finally’ raise my flag and gave him some pix (but then hor he still ‘hiam’ not enough pix… bery difficult to plz leh :=(…)
In just couple of days, will be my 1st year in Antwerp. Working in shipping industries should know Antwerp lah, 2nd biggest Port in Europe (after Rotterdam). Antwerp is located in the Flanders region a.k.a the Dutch speaking region, dus Ik moet ook Nederland spreken (Thus, I must speaks dutch too). The south part of Belgium is the Wallonia region a.k.a the French speaking region, well don’t to explain much that region is nearer to the France lah. BDP Antwerp is located just right beside the Grote Markt (Grand Place or 广场)… surrounded with restaurants and pubs, the heart of Antwerp. But then… dun think since is so convenience here, I must be drinking everyday… no no no… that’s not the case oh.
Stadhuis, Antwerp
Life over here definitely very different back home… after all it’s not your usual comfort zone. There is indeed a lot of adjustment to yourself in order to fit into the lifestyle here… am glad to say that…. after one year… am finally feeling a little more comfortable now… thou still a lot of complaint.. haahaahaa… What kind of adjust will that be?? Here are some example lah….
1) Shops close at 6pm everyday (so no shopping after work) and closes on Sunday and public holidays… Antwerp becomes a dead city… (where in SIN, only during CNY)
2) Going to the doctor will mean, make an appointment and take 20min bus to the nearest doctor nearby… No Doctor on Sat&Sun unless hospital, No phamarcy on Sat & Sun (Phamarcy opened on Sun usually not within walking distance of your neighbourhood). Going to Doctor will only be consultation. You have to get your medicine yourself at the phamarcy. (what if fainted otw to the pharmacy??)
3) Public transport on Sun, would mean at least 30min – 1 hr of waiting. (frequency is less on Sunday)
4) No Char Kway Tiao, Chye Tau Kueh, Laksa, Mee Siam that can fill your stomach just merely S$3.00. All u can get for lunch is sandwiches/pizza/pasta/pita/Salad Cannot tahan these foods?? Then have to CIY (Cook it yourself) lor… lucky I can cook ah… juz make chye tau kueh last weekend ^_^v
….. and many more
Castle by the Schelde, Antwerp
Of course, it’s not really that bad here…. At least when time and $$ permits, can travel around Europe ah… So far, I only been to Holland (Keukenhof) and South of Belgium. Other countries ah, will see how bah.
That’s all am going to write… after all this is not my blog, wait Bernard complain I use his property ah.
All the best to everybody back in BDP Singapore… Cheers and enjoy the pix….
p.s : I apologise for my singlish used here.. but I must say, I did it on purpose :=0.. wanna to practise mah..
